Increased Flights to the Azores for 2025

Currently one of the most popular destinations, the Azores is preparing to welcome even more visitors this year. The regional Secretary of Tourism, Mobility, and Infrastructure announced flights to the islands of Faial, Pico, and Terceira, starting in 2025. This shows the growing demand to travel to this wonderful archipelago and seeks the guarantee of a smooth flow of tourism and economic development.

Widening Access to the Azores

Meeting Tourist Demand

Over the last couple of years, the Azores have gained popularity among international visitors. With dramatic volcanic scenery, colorful marine life, and cultural heritage, it has been one of the favorite destinations for adventure and nature lovers. The increased flights are a response to the growing demand for better accessibility to the islands.

Islands Benefiting from New Flights

  • Faial Island: Known for its dramatic caldera, Capelinhos Volcano and historic Horta Marina.
  • Pico Island: The place with the highest mountain in Portugal, along with UNESCO-listed vineyards.
  • Terceira Island: Houses the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the city Angra do Heroísmo, as well as volcanic wonders such as Algar do Carvão.

These added flights will make each island much easier to visit for travelers, with more options to explore the different experiences on offer.

Support for Local Tourism and Economy

The beneficiaries are the local businesses like tour operators, restaurants, and accommodations from the increase in flights. This will ensure better connectivity to keep pace with growing popularity of the region as a destination. Greater economic opportunities would follow as well to the locals.

Meeting Long-term Needs

The Secretary of Tourism emphasized the need for a thorough assessment to ensure that these increases in flights address both residents' and tourists' needs. Enhancing connectivity and improving inter-island transportation will ensure smooth travel experiences while maintaining sustainable tourism practices.

Starting in 2025, the new flights to Faial, Pico, and Terceira will provide an excellent opportunity to further establish the Azores as one of the most spectacular destinations in the world. With increased accessibility, visitors can take in what the islands have to offer while supporting the people and preserving this natural wonder.
